Kennedy Agyapong Targets 7 Million Ghanaians Through ‘The BASE’ Movement For 2028 Elections

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is reportedly pursuing a new political strategy to remain relevant in Ghanaian politics after losing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race.

Through The BASE, a grassroots political movement, he is said to be targeting approximately seven million voters ahead of the 2028 general elections.

A report by Joy News indicates that the initiative is intended to create an alternative political platform outside the established structures of Ghana’s two dominant parties.

The movement has attracted attention following Agyapong’s defeat in the 2026 NPP presidential primary. Its stated objective is to bring together citizens who are dissatisfied with the current political system and are seeking a different approach to leadership and governance.

The BASE reportedly plans to focus on communities experiencing economic difficulties, including cocoa-growing areas. Its outreach is expected to address concerns such as unemployment, inflation, inadequate infrastructure and the increasing cost of living.

For Agyapong’s supporters, the seven-million-voter target represents an opportunity to unite a large number of Ghanaians who may be willing to move beyond traditional party loyalties in search of alternative leadership.

The development has raised questions about whether The BASE could emerge as a significant third force in the country’s political landscape. The movement has reportedly generated interest online as frustration with established political parties continues to feature in public discussions.

Nevertheless, building a competitive independent movement will not be easy. The NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) possess extensive grassroots networks, established organisational systems and considerable financial resources.

The BASE would need effective leadership, sufficient funding, nationwide coordination and clearly defined policies to compete with them.

The movement must also convince voters that it can provide workable answers to Ghana’s economic and social problems. Turning online interest into sustained community-level support will be essential to establishing its credibility.

Agyapong’s supporters remain optimistic that his message could appeal to citizens who want alternatives to the country’s traditional political divisions.

They believe The BASE could bring together people across party lines and offer another avenue for political participation.

With the 2028 elections approaching, the major test will be whether Agyapong can translate his ambition of reaching seven million voters into an organised movement with a clear agenda and a lasting national presence.
