U-17 Women’s World Cup: We will deal with our semi-final opponent – Black Maidens coach
Black Maidens head coach Joe Nana Adarkwah has set his sights on a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after Ghana defeated Argentina 5-4 on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.
Ghana secured their place in the last eight after a hard-fought encounter in which they were forced to play with 10 players following Hajara Adam’s dismissal with 13 minutes remaining. Jessica Appiah eventually converted the decisive penalty to seal the victory.
Speaking after the match, an emotional Adarkwah expressed his delight with the team’s performance and admitted that the celebrations had taken a toll on his voice.
“Matches like this, it’s not easy. So, after winning it, you have to celebrate. You can see that I’ve lost my voice because of the celebration. So, I’m very happy and I’m proud for the girls. We have done well.
“Yeah, we controlled the game from the start until the red card. But tactically, the girls played to the instructions until they equalised. Let’s thank God that we won the match through penalties. We are happy about the win.”
The Ghana coach also made it clear that his team would approach the quarter-final with the same determination, regardless of the opponent they face.
“We are waiting for our next opponent, and we will deal with them, whatever it is. We have to qualify to the semi-finals.”
