Ruto Announces Talanta Stadium Opening Date and Bayern Munich vs Ajax Match

President William Ruto has sparked public curiosity after State House announced that he would deliver a major address, leaving many Kenyans eager to know what the Head of State intended to reveal.

According to a report by The Star, State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam issued a media alert on October 28, 2026, confirming that the President would deliver a recorded announcement at 6:00 pm East African Time. The statement did not disclose the subject of the address.

The announcement attracted attention because the government did not provide details about what Kenyans should expect. As a result, speculation grew over the possible message and its significance for the country.

President Ruto was in Moscow, Russia, attending the Third Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum when the announcement was scheduled. His visit focused on strengthening relations between Kenya and Russia and exploring opportunities in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure and technology.

A short video shared ahead of the address offered a possible clue. It featured a modern football stadium, rows of green and red seats and Ruto interacting with a football on the pitch. The images led many observers to suspect that the announcement could concern the Talanta Sports City stadium in Nairobi.

The mystery was resolved on the evening of October 28 when Ruto announced that Talanta Stadium would officially open on January 5, 2027. He also revealed that German football giants Bayern Munich would face Dutch club Ajax in a special match to mark the opening of the facility. The stadium was named the Raila Odinga International Stadium.

The announcement places the new stadium at the centre of Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the country will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

The government hopes the facility will attract international sporting events, boost tourism and create business opportunities for Kenyans.

Although the announcement was initially kept secret, the final message focused on sports infrastructure and Kenya’s ambitions to host major international competitions.
