Nairobi: Dramatic Chase as Notorious Gangster Is Finally Shot Dead Along Juja Road

Commotion erupted along Juja Road in Nairobi after a suspected notorious gangster was shot dead by police following a failed motorbike robbery in Kariobangi.

The episode began on Wednesday morning in the Dafur area, where two men reportedly attempted to steal a motorcyclist’s bike. Police reports state the suspects were on a green motorbike with no number plate when they accosted the rider.

The two allegedly drew pistols and ordered the victim to hand over his motorbike. The rider, however, put up resistance and screamed for help, drawing the notice of fellow boda boda riders and residents nearby.

Afraid of being apprehended, the suspects reportedly dropped the robbery attempt and fled toward Kiamako. Officers on patrol in the area were alerted to the incident and promptly gave chase.

During the chase, the pair reportedly separated and ran in different directions to avoid capture.

One suspect sped off in a white Nissan Dayz toward Juja Road. His escape was hindered when he hit traffic at Kariobangi Roundabout, which let the pursuing officers close in on him.

Police said the suspect disregarded commands to give himself up and instead drew a gun, reportedly about to open fire on the officers.

The officers retaliated by shooting him, mortally wounding him at the scene and ending the pursuit.

A search of the scene yielded two firearms: a Falcon pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a locally made gun that was in working condition.

Detectives also seized two mobile phones, a Samsung and a Momofly, as part of the evidence.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations stationed at Starehe later came to the scene to collect evidence and record the incident.

The dead suspect’s body was later moved to City Mortuary, where it awaits identification and a postmortem examination.

In the meantime, the second suspect remains on the run as police continue efforts to hunt him down.

Investigations are under way to determine the circumstances of the incident and whether the suspects were linked to other robberies reported in Nairobi.
