President William Ruto has called on Russia to deepen its economic partnership with Africa by investing in key sectors, including education, agriculture, healthcare, research, innovation and artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the Third Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum at the Kremlin in Moscow, Russian Federation, on Thursday, October 29, Ruto said Africa must secure greater economic benefits from its vast natural resources.

The President argued that although the continent had contributed immensely to global wealth for generations, African countries had captured only a small share of the value generated from their resources.

“For generations, Africa has contributed immensely to the creation of global wealth yet captured only a fraction of the value generated from these resources,” Ruto stated.

He said African countries were now determined to establish partnerships that would enable them to retain more value from their resources while creating opportunities for international investors.

Ruto urged Russia to support Africa’s economic transformation through investments that would strengthen local industries, create employment and improve the continent’s productive capacity.

He identified education, agriculture, research and innovation, healthcare and artificial intelligence as some of the sectors where stronger cooperation could deliver benefits for African countries and their international partners.

The Head of State also called for reforms to the international financial architecture, arguing that global financial institutions must become more responsive to the development needs of African nations.

His remarks reflected Africa’s growing demand for a more equitable global economic system that gives developing countries greater opportunities to finance infrastructure, industrialisation and social development.

The President’s visit to Moscow comes as Kenya seeks to strengthen economic ties with Russia, attract foreign investment and expand markets for Kenyan products.

Before the forum, Ruto engaged Russian investors and promoted opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, energy, infrastructure and technology. Kenya is also seeking partnerships that can support technology transfer and strengthen local production.

The government has emphasised the need to move beyond exporting raw materials and importing finished products, with greater focus on processing agricultural produce and developing industries locally.

Ruto’s participation in the summit provides an opportunity for Kenya to pursue investment agreements and explore areas of cooperation with Russia and other participating countries.

The forum brings together African and Russian leaders to discuss economic cooperation, trade, investment and development priorities.

As discussions continue, Kenya is seeking partnerships that translate diplomatic relations into practical economic outcomes, including new industries, employment opportunities and increased value from the country’s resources.
