Taita Taveta county has lost one of its legislators following the death of nominated Member of the County Assembly Hon. Margaret Kawuki, who passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

She had served as a Specially Elected Member of the Taita Taveta County Assembly under the Jubilee Party ticket.

Governor Andrew Mwadime announced the news through a public statement, describing the morning as "sombre" and expressing grief on behalf of his family and the people of Taita Taveta county.

He extended condolences to Kawuki's relatives, fellow assembly members, county assembly staff, and her friends and colleagues.

Voi MP Khamis Chome Abdi also mourned the legislator, noting that Kawuki had distinguished herself not only as a public servant but also as a respected businesswoman.

He said her contribution to the people of Taita Taveta county would be remembered with appreciation and extended his condolences to her family, colleagues in the county assembly, and all those whose lives she touched.

The Jubilee Party issued a formal condolence statement on the same day, signed by Secretary General Moitalel ole Kenta.

The statement described Kawuki as a committed public servant and a champion of democracy, equality and women's rights whose legacy of service, courage, and dedication to her constituents would endure.

The party acknowledged the loss as deeply felt across both leadership and civic circles in the county, and called on those mourning to draw comfort during what it described as a difficult time.

Ole Kenta said Nganga served with dedication and humility, and that his contribution to the party and the people of Trans Nzoia would remain part of his legacy.

The party said it stood with his family, but did not disclose the circumstances of his death.
