Kenyans Burst Into Laughter as Gachagua Slips Up and Accidentally Campaigns for UDA at DCP Rally
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has attracted attention after appearing to mistakenly mention the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) while addressing supporters during a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) rally in Kajiado County.
The incident happened on Thursday, October 29, during his political tour of Rongai, Kajiado North, where he was drumming up support for DCP ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While speaking about party nominations, Gachagua said there would be free and fair nominations in March 2027, allowing members to choose their preferred candidates. However, he appeared to mention UDA instead of DCP, the party he currently leads.
“In UDA, we will have free and fair nominations in March 2027. You will get to choose leaders you like to carry the party flag in the elections,” Gachagua said.
His remarks drew attention because he has been campaigning to strengthen DCP following his political fallout with President William Ruto and his exit from the ruling party’s political camp.
Gachagua had previously promised that DCP would conduct transparent nominations, giving aspirants a fair chance to compete for party tickets ahead of the next election.
The March 2027 timeline is also important for politicians preparing to contest parliamentary, county and other elective positions. Candidates will be looking to secure party tickets before the general election campaigns intensify.
During the same rally, Gachagua urged Kajiado North residents to continue supporting their Member of Parliament, Onesmus Ngogoyo.
He thanked residents for electing Ngogoyo in the 2022 General Election and described him as a hardworking leader who had stood with his political camp.
Ngogoyo won the seat on a UDA ticket in 2022 but has since aligned himself with Gachagua.
The former deputy president has continued visiting different parts of the country as he seeks to expand DCP’s grassroots support and attract more political leaders ahead of 2027.
His latest remarks have added another talking point to the ongoing political contest as parties prepare for the next election.
Will DCP’s promised free and fair nominations help the party attract more aspirants ahead of 2027?
