Gachagua Breaks Silence on Alleged Meeting With Uhuru Kenyatta as Political Speculation Grows
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to speculation about his contact with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying he has no scheduled appointment with the retired leader.
Gachagua made the clarification during a television interview on October 28, explaining that he had not approached Uhuru to arrange a discussion. He challenged the claims suggesting that the two politicians were already preparing to meet.
Despite rejecting the reports, Gachagua indicated that he would be willing to seek an audience with Uhuru if a reason arose in the future. His response left the possibility of a conversation open without confirming that any plans were underway.
The statement has drawn attention because of the prominent positions both men have held in Kenya. Uhuru led the country for two terms, while Gachagua served as his successor William Ruto’s deputy after the 2022 General Election.
Gachagua’s time in the deputy president’s office ended in October 2024 after the Senate upheld his impeachment. Since then, he has continued to feature in national political discussions through his public appearances and comments on government affairs.
News about possible contact between influential politicians often attracts public interest, particularly when it raises questions about their relationships and future plans. However, Gachagua’s remarks offered no evidence of a planned political partnership or agreement between him and Uhuru.
He also did not announce any intended date for meeting the retired president. For now, the former deputy president’s message is that reports of an already arranged appointment are inaccurate. Whether he will contact Uhuru later remains uncertain, as any future engagement would depend on circumstances and a decision to initiate talks.
