Dear Government/Minicomm,Let Us Respect Order And Due Process—Kofi

Ghanaian commentator Kofi Ofosu has raised concerns over the alleged takeover of mining concessions belonging to indigenous medium-scale miners, criticising the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission for their reported handling of the disputes.

In a Facebook post published on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Ofosu called on the relevant authorities to respect the rule of law and follow established procedures when dealing with mining rights. He argued that the reported actions could put investments worth tens of millions of dollars belonging to Ghanaian entrepreneurs at risk.

Ofosu questioned the circumstances under which mining concessions were allegedly taken over, insisting that the procedures governing the revocation or termination of mining licences should be followed before control of the properties changes hands.

He maintained that miners who receive notices terminating their rights should be given the opportunity to challenge such decisions through the appropriate legal channels. According to him, affected concession holders can approach the courts to seek injunctions if they believe the decisions violate their rights.

However, Ofosu alleged that armed individuals were being deployed to take control of some mining sites while the affected miners pursued legal remedies. He expressed concern that such developments could undermine confidence in Ghana’s mining sector and discourage local entrepreneurs from investing in the industry.

The commentator also claimed that Chinese nationals and other individuals had begun operating on some of the disputed concessions. He questioned how the mining sites came under their control, although the allegations have not been independently verified.

Ofosu further raised the possibility of political interests influencing the reported takeovers but did not provide evidence to support the suggestion.

He stressed that disputes over mining concessions should be addressed through Ghana’s established legal institutions rather than actions that could pre-empt the resolution of ongoing cases.

His comments have brought renewed attention to the protection of local mining investments, the administration of mineral rights and the importance of due process. Responses from the relevant authorities would help clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged takeovers.
