Ampem Darkoa capitalise on second chance to book CAF Women’s Champions League place
Ampem Darkoa Ladies have qualified for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after beating Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3–2 in the rescheduled WAFU Zone B final in Cairo. The Ghanaian champions scored two minutes into the resumed extra-time period to make it 3–2 and held on for the win.
The original final in Burkina Faso ended 2–2 after 90 minutes, but officials went directly to penalties, which Edo Queens won 4–1. CAF later annulled that shootout result after Ampem Darkoa successfully protested that the regulations required 30 minutes of extra time before penalties.
The victory sends Ampem Darkoa to the CAF Women’s Champions League for the second time. They will compete in Group B alongside defending champions AS FAR of Morocco, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Mali’s USFAS Bamako.
The tournament begins in Egypt on November 1 and runs until November 15. Ampem Darkoa’s qualification completes a dramatic reversal after CAF’s ruling gave them another chance to claim the WAFU Zone B ticket.
