According to report by Dunkwatv on Thursday 29, October 2026, the Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has disclosed that the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, had been allowing female students to visit him at his residence.

According to the mayor, the situation had raised concerns within the Obuasi community, particularly because of allegations of sexual misconduct involving 19 female students.

Mr Agyemang Boadi made the disclosure when he appeared before Parliament’s Local Government Committee to respond to concerns surrounding the controversy. He used the opportunity to reject claims that he had been shielding the headmaster from accountability.

The mayor explained that he had personally cautioned Mr Abdulai about allowing female students to visit him at home, stressing that such conduct could create negative perceptions and further fuel speculation within the community.

He said his advice was intended to prevent the situation from worsening and to protect the headmaster from actions that could be misinterpreted while the allegations were being investigated.

“I admonished him and asked him not to allow female students to come so that the perception being created about him in Obuasi would not be fuelled,” the mayor stated.

Mr Abdulai has since been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) as investigations into the allegations continue. The interdiction is expected to allow the relevant authorities to conduct their inquiries without interference.

However, the Kumasi Mayor insisted that he had no direct supervisory authority over the headmaster and therefore had no power to determine whether disciplinary action should be taken against him.

“I don’t have any direct supervisory role over the headmaster. I don’t have anything to do with whether he was going to be sanctioned or not. So I cannot, with any shred of imagination, be covering him up,” he said.
