Wike: No Rivers State Man Is interested In Whatever Governor Siminalayi Fubara Is Doing – Ikoawaji
In an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Asukewe Ikoawaji, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), criticised the political situation in Rivers State, insisting that the state’s residents were more concerned about resetting governance than the activities and ambitions of individual political leaders.
Ikoawaji made the remarks while responding to questions about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s public alignment with the political coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Ikoawaji, “No Rivers State man is interested in whatever Governor Siminalayi Fubara is doing.” He maintained that the political discussion in the state had shifted towards the need for a new direction in governance and addressing the concerns of residents.
The NDC chieftain argued that Fubara’s political ambitions should not overshadow the interests of the people of Rivers State. He stated that residents wanted a government that would focus on their needs rather than allow political disagreements and individual interests to dominate public affairs.
Ikoawaji further maintained that the people of Rivers State would ultimately determine the state’s political future, stressing that political leaders were free to make their own choices but could not dictate what the people should accept.
He also called for collective efforts to address the challenges facing the state, noting that achieving meaningful change would require the participation of people committed to Rivers State’s development.
He concluded by stressing the need to reset Rivers State and establish a governance approach that reflects the aspirations of its people, maintaining that the state’s future should be determined by the collective interests of residents rather than individual political ambitions.
