Tinubu To Depart Abuja For Makkah To Pray For Nigeria, Presidency Reveals

According to a report by The Vanguard on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, where he will perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage that involves prayers and other religious rites.

The Presidency made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The statement was dated October 28, 2026.

According to Onanuga, the visit will give the President an opportunity for spiritual reflection and prayers for Nigeria. He is expected to pray for the country’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress during his stay in the holy city.

While in Makkah, Tinubu will carry out the religious rites linked to Umrah and seek Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.

Before he departs the nation’s capital, the President will first attend an official engagement. He is scheduled to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The statement said Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Makkah that Muslims can undertake at any time of the year, unlike the Hajj, which takes place on specific dates. Many Nigerians, including public office holders, travel to Saudi Arabia for the exercise every year.

The trip comes at a time when political activities and national issues continue to dominate conversations across the country. The Presidency, however, framed the visit as a spiritual one focused on prayers for the nation.
