President Ruto Leads in the Presidential Race, Latest Opinion Poll Shows
The presidential race is taking shape in the country ahead of the upcoming general election. President William Ruto is seeking a second term, while several opposition candidates are looking to unseat him in the tough anticipated contest.
According to the latest opinion poll released by Swiss Poll International on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Ruto leads the national presidential preference table with 40.2%. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka holds the second position with 19.7%, while Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is third at 17.6%.
The survey further shows former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with 7.5% of the vote, followed by former Cabinet Secretary for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i at 6.0%, and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro at 4.5%.
The remaining respondents are accounted for by the undecided category at 3.3%, while 1.2% of those polled favor other candidates.
President Ruto is currently leading the broad-based coalition after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) joined the government and is backing his re-election bid.
The opposition leaders on the other hand have not formed an alliance that they will use in the polls. The principals in the camp have promised that they will unite and front a single candidate against Ruto.
