2027: ADC Announces New Date for Atiku’s Presidential Campaign Flag-Off
According to a report by The Guardian on Wednesday 28 October 2026, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rescheduled the flag-off of its presidential campaign in Sokoto State, moving the event from Saturday, October 31, to Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
The postponement was announced on Wednesday by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council in Sokoto State in a statement signed by its Director-General, Bello Aliyu Goronyo.
The council explained that the decision followed the need to address certain planning and coordination issues ahead of the campaign event.
It appealed to party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the public to take note of the new date, while apologising for any inconvenience caused by the change in schedule.
The council also thanked party members and supporters for their understanding and continued commitment, expressing readiness to welcome them to the rescheduled event.
The development comes amid reports of accommodation challenges in Sokoto ahead of the planned campaign flag-off; Reports indicated that hotel rooms were being booked in anticipation of the event, while some hotel owners were allegedly unwilling to make rooms available to prospective guests.
However, the campaign council’s official statement attributed the postponement to planning and coordination considerations without specifically mentioning the reported hotel accommodation difficulties.
The ADC is preparing for the 2027 general election with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate; The opposition party is seeking to expand its political support nationwide as it prepares to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a related development, the ADC Presidential Campaign Council at the national level has disowned an unsigned campaign timetable circulating on social media, warning members and supporters against treating the document as an official schedule.
The clarification was contained in a separate statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
According to the council, the timetable did not originate from its office and had not been authorised by the campaign organisation.
Ologbondiyan urged party members, stakeholders and supporters to disregard the document and wait for official communication on the dates and locations of campaign activities.
The disputed timetable had listed Sokoto as the starting point of the presidential campaign on October 31, 2026, and outlined proposed rallies and political engagements in several states before a closing event in Adamawa State on January 11, 2027.
Other states featured in the document included Kebbi, Zamfara, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano and Borno.
The two announcements underscore the need for party members and supporters to rely on official communications from the campaign council as the ADC finalises its arrangements for the 2027 presidential election.
