The Black Maidens will face the South American side on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Rabat, Morocco, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Ghana recovered from a disappointing start to the tournament to finish top of Group C and secure qualification for the knockout stage.

They opened their campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Norway before producing an entertaining 3-3 draw against Brazil. The team then secured a 2-0 victory over Canada in their final group match to claim top spot.

Despite the improvement in results, Nana Adarkwa expects the level of competition to increase as the tournament progresses.

“Going forward, I know we are heading into difficult times,” he told Ghana FA Media.

“We are going to face tougher opposition, and we are going to work towards that,” he added.

Argentina enter the contest with confidence after an impressive group-stage campaign that included a 5-1 victory over hosts Morocco and a 2-0 win against New Zealand.

The South Americans topped their group to advance to the knockout rounds and will be aiming to continue their strong run against Ghana.

Wednesday’s encounter will also be a significant milestone for Argentina, who are making their debut appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana, by contrast, have considerable experience in the competition, having won the bronze medal in 2012.

The Black Maidens will hope to draw on that experience as they seek to progress to the quarter-finals and continue their campaign in Morocco.
