Let’s Be Serious,Since When Did Buying Affordable Bag And Wig Become A Crime?—Bongo
Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, has criticised media personality Serwaa Amihere over her reported comments advising people against buying imitation bags, wigs, shoes and other expensive fashion items to impress others.
In a Facebook post on Monday, October 26, 2026, Bongo Ideas argued that people should be free to make purchasing decisions based on their financial circumstances, stressing that not everyone can afford original luxury products.
The controversy followed remarks attributed to Serwaa Amihere, who reportedly encouraged people to concentrate on working hard and improving their lives instead of purchasing imitation products to create a particular image. She was also said to have advised people to buy original items when they could comfortably afford them.
Reacting to the comments, Bongo Ideas challenged the message, arguing that people should not be told what to wear or purchase simply because others have the financial means to buy more expensive alternatives.
“Serwaa Amihere, it is about time we told you the truth,” he stated.
The commentator maintained that individuals have different income levels and financial responsibilities, making it important to respect their choices. He questioned why purchasing affordable bags, wigs and shoes should attract public criticism, particularly when people are spending their own money.
He further argued that owning luxury products should not give anyone a reason to look down on people who cannot afford them. According to him, consumers should be allowed to live within their means without feeling pressured to meet society’s expectations.
Bongo Ideas also referenced cosmetic procedures and enhancements, including Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs) and artificial teeth, while questioning whether people’s appearance-related choices should influence how society judges their success or personal worth.
The exchange has drawn attention to broader discussions about fashion, financial capacity, cosmetic enhancements and social pressure.
While Serwaa Amihere’s reported advice focused on discouraging the purchase of imitation luxury items for appearances, Bongo Ideas emphasised personal freedom and the need to avoid judging people based on what they can afford.
