Ghana’s Vice President Receives Yokama Title At Manya Krobo Celebration

Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has been honoured with the Yokama title during the Yokama 2026 celebration held in Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, where she joined traditional authorities and residents to mark the occasion.

In a post shared on her official Facebook page on October 26, 2026, the Vice President expressed gratitude to the traditional leaders and people of Manya Krobo for recognising her. She attended the celebration alongside His Royal Majesty Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo and President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

During her address, Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the importance of women’s participation in community development and national progress. She emphasised the need to strengthen institutions and create opportunities that enable women to contribute to Ghana’s economic and social advancement.

She also discussed government initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and protecting vulnerable members of society. Among the measures she highlighted were the Social Protection Act, the Social Protection Regulations and the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Regulations, which are intended to support inclusion and improve institutional accountability.

The Vice President further drew attention to the proposed Women’s Development Bank, which seeks to improve women’s access to financial services, as well as the Free Sanitary Pads Programme, designed to help address challenges that may prevent girls from participating fully in education.

She encouraged young people to take their education seriously, develop their talents and make responsible decisions that would support their personal growth and future ambitions.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang also acknowledged the role of traditional institutions in preserving cultural heritage and contributing to community development. She called for sustained cooperation between government, traditional authorities and local communities to expand opportunities and improve living conditions.

The Yokama 2026 celebration provided a platform for discussions on women’s empowerment, education, social protection and inclusive development. The Vice President’s recognition also highlighted the relationship between national leadership and traditional institutions in promoting shared development goals across Ghana.
