U-17 Women’s World Cup: Facing Argentina will be hard – Black Maidens coach
Ghana U-17 women’s coach Joe Nana Adarkwa expects a tough challenge when the Black Maidens take on Argentina in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Ghana will meet the South Americans on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Rabat, Morocco, with both teams looking to book a place in the quarter-finals.
The Black Maidens bounced back from a difficult start to the competition to finish top of Group C and qualify for the knockout stage.
They began the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Norway before holding Brazil to an entertaining 3-3 draw. Ghana then wrapped up their group campaign with a 2-0 win over Canada, securing first place in the group.
However, Nana Adarkwa believes his players must be ready for an even tougher test as the competition moves into the knockout stage.
“Going forward, I know we are heading into difficult times,” he told Ghana FA Media.
“We are going to face tougher opposition, and we are going to work towards that,” he added.
Argentina will also head into Wednesday’s meeting in confident mood after an impressive group-stage performance. They recorded a 5-1 victory over tournament hosts Morocco and followed it up with a 2-0 win against New Zealand.
The South American side finished top of their group and will be hoping to maintain their form when they face Ghana.
The match also marks a historic moment for Argentina, who are competing at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
