Ruto’s Stinging Jab at Kalonzo After Gachagua Wamunyoro Meeting: Claims He went on an ‘Interview’
President William Ruto has taken a swipe at Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka following his meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Wamunyoro, Nyeri County, portraying the opposition consultations as an interview for a political position.
Speaking on Monday, October 26, Ruto revisited the questions Kalonzo faced over his identity and academic qualifications during the 2022 presidential election period, suggesting that the opposition leader could once again find himself under scrutiny as political leaders negotiate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“I hear Kalonzo has gone for a little interview today. They ask him: What is your name? Where is your identity card? Where are your certificates?” Ruto said.
The President also questioned Kalonzo over his previous remarks that God was using him to build roads, adding another pointed jab to his comments about the Wiper leader.
“Then the final question: Why did you say that Ruto is being used by God to build roads?” he posed.
Ruto’s remarks came hours after Kalonzo held talks with Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence, in a meeting that has drawn attention as opposition leaders seek to strengthen their cooperation ahead of the next General Election.
Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), welcomed Kalonzo to his Nyeri home, signalling a willingness to work together as political realignments gather pace.
The former Deputy President has been pushing for opposition unity, with leaders facing mounting pressure to agree on a common strategy to challenge Ruto in 2027.
The question of who will carry the opposition’s presidential ticket remains a key issue in the emerging political arrangements, with Kalonzo among the prominent figures seeking to position themselves for the contest.
Ruto’s remarks appeared to seize on the uncertainty surrounding the opposition’s succession talks, casting Kalonzo’s meeting with Gachagua as an interview at a time when the opposition is still working towards a unified political direction.
