Hundreds of Vehicles Flood Wamunyoro as Kalonzo Leads Ukambani Heavyweights to Gachagua’s Doorstep

Hundreds of vehicles packed the parking lot at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Monday, October 26, as he hosted Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and a delegation of Ukambani leaders in a high-profile political meeting ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The delegation brought together prominent leaders, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr and Kitui Governor Julius Malombe, among other politicians from the Ukambani region.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), welcomed Kalonzo alongside his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, describing the Wiper leader as his cousin and emphasising the importance of political unity.

“Welcome to Wamunyoro, my cousin Kalonzo Musyoka. Unity of purpose is vital! When we come together, great things must happen,” Gachagua said.

Kalonzo also acknowledged his arrival at Wamunyoro, sharing the message, “We have reached Wamunyoro.”

The meeting comes amid intensified efforts by opposition leaders to build a united political front capable of challenging President William Ruto in the August 2027 General Election.

Gachagua has been engaging leaders from different political formations as opposition figures explore possible alliances and strategies for the next election. Kalonzo, a veteran opposition leader, remains an influential figure in the broader opposition movement.

The presence of senior leaders from Ukambani at Wamunyoro adds weight to the ongoing political consultations, with questions surrounding coalition arrangements, leadership and the selection of a joint presidential candidate expected to shape the opposition’s next steps.

Although the meeting brings key political figures together, whether the consultations will result in a formal coalition agreement remains to be seen.
