Big Blow to Ruto as Close Ally Didmus Dumps Him in Western Politics, Declares”We Must Part Ways”

President William Ruto has suffered a big blow in Western Kenya after his close ally and staunch supporter Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa hinted at dumping him in Bungoma politics.

Didmus Barasa, who is seeking the Bungoma Governor seat in the 2027 general election, has declared that he and Ruto must part ways locally even though their national destination remains the same.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page today 25th October 2026, Barasa said they share the same horizon in President William Ruto and nationally their destination is the same. But in Bungoma, their philosophy and local vision are in serious conflict.

He said, “We agree on where Kenya should go, but we disagree on how Bungoma should be led, how Bungoma should be prepared, and what it takes to lift our people.”

According to the MP, his philosophy with Ruto is at a crossroads and their local preparation is different. He added, “So we must part ways – not because the national vision divided us, but because the local vision did.”

In a nutshell, he summarized his stand as, “Same horizon in President Ruto. Same destination nationally. But in Bungoma, our philosophy and local vision are in conflict. Philosophy at crossroads we must part ways.”

This announcement is seen as a major setback for President Ruto in Bungoma County, where Barasa has been one of his most vocal defenders. Political analysts say Barasa is now charting his own political path in the Western region.
