Utawala Man Releases CCTV of 2 ‘Mchele Babes’ Leaving His House at Dawn, Seeks Help

A man in Utawala, Nairobi, is seeking information about two women he suspects of drugging and robbing him after CCTV footage showed them leaving his apartment building in the early hours of Saturday, June 20.

The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the two women walking down a staircase before exiting the building near a white SUV. The cameras captured their movements at different times, including around 2:10 am and 7:10 am.

According to a Facebook post accompanying the video, a friend of the person who shared the footage had recently lost several valuable household items under suspicious circumstances. The two women seen in the recordings were allegedly linked to the incident.

The post appealed to members of the public who might recognise the women to come forward with information that could help establish what happened.

Residents of Utawala and neighbouring areas were also urged to remain vigilant when inviting people they have recently met into their homes.

The incident has reignited conversations about so-called mchele babes, a street term commonly used to describe people suspected of drugging victims’ drinks before stealing their valuables.

Such incidents have raised concerns among Nairobi residents, particularly revellers who meet strangers at bars and clubs before taking them home.

The footage also sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users warning against inviting strangers into private residences after a night out.

Others called for improved security measures, including installing CCTV cameras in apartment staircases and other shared spaces.

One user questioned the man’s decision to take women he had apparently met recently to his home, while another advised revellers to exercise caution when socialising with strangers.

The allegations against the two women have not been independently verified, and the footage alone does not establish whether they were involved in the reported theft.

Meanwhile, the incident has drawn comparisons to a separate case in Kilimani, where two women were reportedly sought over the alleged theft of valuables worth KSh 335,000 after a man was allegedly drugged during a night out.

Residents with information about the Utawala incident have been encouraged to report it to the relevant authorities to assist with investigations.
