Today’s Headlines:Tinubu Will Return to Aso Rock-Kwankwaso;‘You are our role model’, Sultan hails Oba of Benin at 10th coronation anniversary durbar
A member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has declared that the North-West has made its choice for the 2027 presidential election, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return to Aso Rock.
Kwankwaso spoke against the backdrop of the massive turnout and endorsement of Tinubu at the formal kick-off of the APC Presidential Campaign in Kaduna, describing the gathering as a decisive demonstration of northern support for the President ahead of the 2027 poll.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the VIP Pavilion, the APC campaign council member said the Kaduna rally had effectively dispelled lingering doubts over where the North stood in the unfolding presidential contest.
“Today, we of the North-West geopolitical zone have spoken loud and clear on who we stand for. Our choice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains our commitment to a better Nigeria and national cohesion,” Kwankwaso said.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar III, has described the Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, as a role model to traditional rulers in Nigeria.
The Sultan stated this yesterday during a royal durbar organised as part of activities marking the Benin monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary.
Formerly a rare spectacle in Benin, the durbar has become a recurring feature since Oba Ewuare II ascended the throne of his ancestors 10 years ago.
Represented by the Emir of Kagara in Niger State, Malam Ahmed Garba Gunna, the Sultan paid tribute to Oba Ewuare, who rode on horseback from his palace to Garrick Memorial Ground to lead a massive crowd at the royal horse race.
ABUJA: Pastoralist groups have rejected the profiling of Fulani pastoralists as bandits and called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a national dialogue on farmer-herder conflicts, following what they say are the killings of hundreds of pastoralists in recent months.
At a news conference on Sunday in Abuja, President of Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association of Nigeria, Dr. Huseini Buzaye, who signed an address on behalf of the Confederation of Pastoralist Non-Governmental Organisations CONPA, said the groups represent “millions of Nigerian pastoralists from all 36 states and FCT”, under over 30 associations.
General Secretary of the association, Abdullahi Ardo, who read the prepared speech on behalf of the president, said; “For too long, the word ‘Fulani Pastoralist’ has been profiled and criminalized as synonymous with banditry, kidnapping and terrorism”.
