Today’s Headlines:NCDC Announces Two More Suspected Cases of Ebola;Ooni to Resolve Ondo Stool Crisis

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced two additional suspected cases of Ebola in the country. The agency’s Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during a press briefing.

Idris stressed that the two cases remain suspected and have not been confirmed as Ebola infections. He also revealed that a suspected case in Rivers State tested negative and the individual was cleared of the disease.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has intervened in the six-year dispute over the vacant Olufon of Ifon-Omima stool in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, urging contestants to embrace dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution. The intervention was conveyed by Oba Peter Ipadeola of Ifon-Osun, who visited the community to facilitate reconciliation following the death of the former monarch, Oba Israel Adeusi, in 2020.

Community leaders appealed to the Ondo State Government to ensure a transparent selection process in line with the existing chieftaincy declaration. They also called for an investigation into Adeusi’s killing and urged the contestants to put the community’s interests above personal ambitions. Efforts to resolve the dispute have included consultations with ruling houses and stakeholders, but disagreements over the selection process have prevented the emergence of a successor.

Pastoralist groups under the Confederation of Pastoralist Non-Governmental Organisations (CONPA) have rejected the profiling of Fulani herders as bandits, calling on President Bola Tinubu to convene a national dialogue on farmer-herder conflicts. At a news conference in Abuja on Sunday, October 25, 2026, the groups alleged that hundreds of pastoralists had been killed in recent months in Plateau, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and other states. They demanded independent investigations, compensation for victims and relief materials for displaced pastoralists, while urging security agencies to arrest and prosecute criminals without ethnic discrimination.

The coalition also called for at least 30 per cent of the agricultural budget to be allocated to the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the immediate gazetting and protection of 417 grazing reserves, and the establishment of pilot ranches and fodder production facilities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Citing more than 20,000 deaths from farmer-herder conflicts over the past decade, the groups argued that military action alone could not guarantee peace and urged the government to bring farmers, pastoralists, religious leaders, traditional rulers and security agencies together to develop a lasting solution.

Motorists in Minna, Niger State, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, protested the prolonged unavailability of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega station along the Western Bypass. The motorists said the station had been non-functional for about three months due to a faulty dispensing machine, forcing them to rely on the more expensive petrol despite spending over ₦1 million to convert their vehicles to CNG.

The protesters accused the station’s management of failing to address the problem or provide explanations and warned of a larger demonstration if supplies were not restored. They urged the authorities to resolve the issue and ensure the availability of CNG facilities before promoting vehicle conversions. However, Niger State Ministry of Transport Director Muhammad Abdullah said the protest concerned the NNPC station, adding that the ministry’s own CNG initiative had yet to commence.
