Pres Ruto Showcases Progress of KSh 670M Enziu Bridge In Kitui County During Inspection Tour
President William Ruto on Sunday afternoon inspected the ongoing construction of the KSh670 million Enziu Bridge in Mwingi Central Constituency, Kitui County, as the project approaches its final stages.
The bridge is expected to provide a permanent crossing between Mwingi Central and Mwingi East, addressing years of challenges faced by residents whenever heavy rains cause flooding in the area.
During the inspection, Ruto highlighted the human cost of the dangerous crossing, noting that hundreds of lives had been lost at the location over the years.
The project is intended to eliminate the risks associated with crossing the river during rainy seasons, when rising water levels have disrupted movement and endangered residents.
Once completed, the bridge will provide a safer and more reliable connection for communities on both sides, allowing people to travel throughout the year regardless of weather conditions.
According to the President, the infrastructure will also improve access to essential services, including schools and hospitals, while making it easier for residents to reach markets.
The improved connectivity is expected to support trade by enabling farmers, traders and other business operators to transport goods more reliably between the neighbouring constituencies.
The construction of bridge is part of broader efforts to improve transport infrastructure, address challenges affecting communities in areas prone to flooding.
For residents who have experienced disruptions during heavy rains, the project is expected to reduce the isolation caused by impassable routes and provide greater certainty when travelling for work, education and medical services.
The bridge is expected to improve safety and strengthen economic and social links between communities in Mwingi Central and Mwingi East once it is ready for use.
