Eastleigh Building Collapse: 47 People Reported Missing as Families Await News

At least 47 people have been reported missing following the collapse of a multi-storey building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, as rescue teams race against time to find survivors and reunite families with their loved ones.

The building collapsed on Friday, October 23, 2026, along 9th Street, triggering a multi-agency rescue operation involving emergency responders, police and the Kenya Red Cross.

According to the latest reports, nine people initially reported missing have since been reunited with their families. Authorities and humanitarian teams are continuing to verify reports to establish how many people remain unaccounted for and may still be trapped beneath the rubble.

The rising number of missing-person reports has intensified anxiety among relatives who have maintained a vigil near the disaster scene, hoping for updates about loved ones who have not returned home or answered their phones.

Rescue workers have continued clearing concrete and debris while using specialised equipment to search the wreckage. Four survivors had been rescued by Sunday, October 25, according to the National Police Service, offering hope to families still waiting for news.

However, the operation remains challenging because of the size of the collapsed structure and the need to reach areas where people may be trapped. Emergency teams have urged members of the public to keep away from the affected streets to allow rescue machinery and personnel to operate without obstruction.

Families seeking information about missing relatives have been advised to report to the Kenya Red Cross desk at the scene or call its emergency number, 1199.

The tragedy has also renewed concerns about building safety and enforcement of construction regulations in Nairobi.

As the search continues, relatives remain hopeful that rescuers will reach more survivors, even as uncertainty grows over the fate of those still missing.
