Dubai-Based Ghanaian Demands GH¢100,000 Compensation After Fiancée Sells House Built On Family Land
A Dubai-based Ghanaian man, Philip Asumang, has publicly appealed for GH¢100,000 in compensation from his former fiancée, Florence, accusing her and her family of selling a house he financed while working abroad.
Speaking on the dispute resolution show Oyerepa Afutuo on Oyerepa TV, Philip explained that his relationship with Florence was facilitated by her mother, known as Maa Vic, whom he met while selling bread at Suame in the Ashanti Region. Following an initial introduction and courtship, Maa Vic provided a plot of land for the couple to build a home. Florence’s family subsequently helped connect Philip with a travel agent, enabling him to relocate to Dubai for work.
While working abroad, Philip regularly remitted money back to Ghana to fund the construction of the house on the provided land, believing it would serve as their future home. However, upon completion of the building, Florence terminated their relationship, and her mother subsequently informed him that the property had been sold.
“What I need right now is that I need my GH¢100,000 that I spent on the project from them,” Philip stated during the broadcast.
Appearing on the same program, Florence confirmed ending the relationship but offered a different perspective regarding the property’s sale. She claimed her family had previously advanced Philip GH¢12,000 to assist with his travel expenses to Dubai, and argued that proceeds from the house sale were required to fund her younger sister’s education.
Florence expressed a willingness to refund a portion of the money after deducting the family’s initial travel loan and accounting for her family’s ownership of the land. The ongoing dispute highlights the legal and financial complexities surrounding property developments on un-deeded family land within cross-border relationships.
