God Did Not Give Us Oil For Chinchinga And Chibom,He Gave Us Oil To Refine—Jennifer Oppong
According to a Post on Jennifer oppong official facebook account on Sunday, October 25,2026,Ghanaian social commentator Jennifer Oppong has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s approach to local oil refining and gold resource management, arguing that effective utilisation of the country’s natural resources could strengthen the economy against global economic shocks.
In a Facebook post directed at Kofi Bentil, Oppong maintained that refining crude oil locally and maximising the value of Ghana’s gold resources were important steps towards building a more resilient economy.
She referenced tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic global shipping route, to illustrate how international conflicts and disruptions can affect countries that depend heavily on imported petroleum products and other essential commodities.
According to Oppong, Ghana’s capacity to refine a significant proportion of its crude oil domestically could help reduce its exposure to external disruptions.
She specifically praised Mahama’s reported vision of refining 40 per cent of the country’s oil locally, describing the approach as an example of forward-thinking economic management.
“When you have the foresight like John Dramani Mahama to refine 40% of the oil God gave you right here in Ghana,” Oppong wrote.
Beyond the petroleum sector, she highlighted the importance of Ghana’s gold industry, defending the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board, popularly known as GoldBod, as a means of capturing greater value from the country’s mineral resources.
Oppong argued that Ghana should prioritise initiatives that generate tangible economic benefits rather than commit substantial public funds to arrangements whose value to the broader population remains a subject of debate.
