Bishop Regrets Helping Ruto Win in 2022, Discloses What’s Happening in His Church

Bishop Samuel Ngacha Njiriri, who played a significant role in President William Ruto’s election campaigns and eventual victory, has now turned against the Head of State he once strongly supported.

The bishop, who previously led the evangelical campaign in support of Ruto’s presidency, has expressed disappointment with the President, accusing him of failing to honour the promises he made to Kenyans during his campaigns.

Njiriri, who heads the Stewards Revival Pentecostal Church, has urged Ruto to acknowledge that some of his campaign pledges may be impossible to fulfil and instead focus on realistic priorities.

Speaking to People Daily, the cleric warned that attempting to implement promises without the necessary resources could place an unbearable burden on both the government and ordinary citizens.

He called on the President to be honest with Kenyans about the challenges facing his administration and to reconsider commitments that cannot be achieved under the current circumstances.

The bishop also pointed to what he described as a widening gap between Ruto’s campaign promises and his actions in government, saying the situation had left religious leaders who campaigned for him disappointed.

According to Njiriri, church leaders who persuaded their congregations to vote for Ruto are now facing criticism from their followers, who feel they were misled.

He lamented that the President’s current approach contradicts the assurances he gave during the campaign period, leaving clergy members struggling to defend their decision to support him.

Beyond the unfulfilled pledges, Njiriri has urged Ruto to reconsider his taxation policies, warning that the current system is placing significant pressure on ordinary Kenyans.

The bishop stressed the need for the government to review its priorities and adopt practical policies that reflect the country’s economic realities. He cautioned that pursuing unrealistic targets could worsen the hardships facing citizens and ultimately undermine the administration’s objectives.
