Several Feared Dead in Accident Involving Bus and Lorry Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

A serious road accident involving a Canter truck and a passenger bus has been reported along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway near Kanga Station in Mtito Andei.

The crash occurred on the busy Voi–Nairobi section of the highway, although the exact circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear.

Preliminary reports indicated that several people may have suffered serious injuries, with fears that some could have died following the impact.

However, the exact number of casualties was yet to be confirmed as rescue teams and emergency responders continued working at the scene.

Images and videos shared from the location showed a disturbing scene, with several people lying on the ground after the collision.

The bus appeared to have sustained extensive damage, particularly on its front section. Its windscreen was shattered, while broken glass and debris were scattered across the highway.

Police officers, assisted by members of the public, responded quickly after the crash was reported.

Residents joined the rescue effort, helping remove passengers who were reportedly trapped inside the damaged vehicles.

Emergency teams were also expected to assist the injured and facilitate their evacuation to nearby health facilities.

The accident caused a serious snarl-up on the ever-busy highway. Motorists travelling between Mombasa and Nairobi were forced to stop for a long time as police tried to clear the road and allow rescue vehicles to pass.

Long queues formed on both sides of the crash site, delaying passengers, traders, and transporters.

Motorists have been advised to use caution, follow traffic officers’ directions, and avoid the area where possible until normal flow resumes.
