Wetang’ula Sends Stern Warning To First-Time MPs Eyeing Presidency And Reveals His Own 2032 Plan

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has cautioned first-time MPs aspiring to the presidency. He said Kenya’s political history shows the importance of gaining adequate experience before seeking the top seat.

Speaking during a women’s empowerment drive at Jepkoyayi Grounds in Hamisi Vihiga County on Saturday October 24 he dismissed their ambitions as premature. He said Kenyans have always trusted experienced politicians with the presidency.

Wetang’ula said he had no objection to young leaders chasing their dreams. However he warned that challenging President William Ruto in the next General Election without enough experience could jeopardise their careers.

He appealed to the region to back Ruto’s reelection bid in 2027. He then revealed that he would go for the top seat in 2032 and said he had gained the experience needed to succeed Ruto.

The Speaker urged the Luhya community to unite behind his ambitions. He said it was time to deliver the presidency the community had dreamed of for years.

Five MPs who accompanied him criticised colleagues linked to the Linda Mwananchi Movement. Those colleagues had visited former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to apologise for their role in his impeachment.

Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe said the lawmakers did the right thing and had no apology to make. Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe asked what had changed for opposition leaders who once accused Gachagua of tribalism.

Ikolomani MP Benjamin Shinali claimed leaders from the Central region were plotting to use Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to divide Ruto’s votes in Western Kenya. He said the plan was to push Sifuna onto the 2027 presidential ballot.
