Police Probe Karen Nyamu After Claims She Helped Supporter Forge KCSE Certificate to Join NPS

The National Police Service (NPS) has launched an investigation into remarks attributed to nominated Senator Karen Nyamu after she allegedly disclosed helping a political supporter use a forged secondary school certificate in an attempt to join the police service.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the service had taken note of a video in which the senator appeared to acknowledge her involvement in a case involving an allegedly fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate.

The investigation follows comments Nyamu reportedly made during an interview with Radio Generation on Friday, October 23. She claimed she had tried to help a loyal campaign supporter secure a place in police training at the National Police College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County.

According to the senator’s account, the supporter proceeded to the training institution but was later arrested following investigations into the alleged certificate forgery.

During the interview, Nyamu said she had been happy when the woman secured an opportunity to begin training. However, she claimed the situation changed after the alleged forgery was discovered.

The senator further stated that the woman was arrested alongside 17 other people in connection with the matter.

The claims have drawn the attention of the police service because recruitment into the National Police Service is expected to follow established procedures, including verification of applicants’ academic qualifications and other eligibility requirements.

The NPS investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the remarks and determine whether further action is warranted.

However, the allegations should not be treated as established facts until they have been independently verified and the relevant authorities have completed their investigations.

The development places renewed attention on the integrity of police recruitment and the importance of ensuring that applicants meet the required qualifications through legitimate means.

Further details about the investigation and any possible action against those implicated had not been provided in the report available at the time of publication.
