“Mt Kenya Will Suffer if It Walks Out of Government,” Waiguru Warns Voters as She Backs Ruto
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has urged Mt Kenya residents to prioritise development over opposition politics ahead of the 2027 General Election, while calling on the region to support President William Ruto’s bid for another term.
Speaking at Kabaru Ward in Nyeri County during an event supporting the completion of the Warazo Jet Water Irrigation Project, Waiguru cautioned residents against following political party waves without considering leaders’ development records and achievements.
Waiguru argued that the opposition had little chance of defeating Ruto in the upcoming election, warning Mt Kenya residents against abandoning the government out of anger or political dissatisfaction. She urged voters to make decisions based on performance.
“Let’s go slow, let leave anger out of the elections. This time, there will be no voting on political party line, vote leaders based on their track record,” Waiguru said, urging residents to reconsider their political choices.
The governor further claimed that the region might lack a formidable presidential candidate in 2027, potentially leading to lower voter turnout. She warned that Mt Kenya could lose political influence if residents chose to remain outside the government.
“You will not be punishing Ruto by walking out of Government, it is you who will suffer. Let’s ignore propaganda and distinguish between comedy and facts,” she said, insisting that supporting the government would protect the region’s interests.
Waiguru maintained that the election should focus on development, political representation and economic opportunities rather than emotional political decisions. She argued that communities distancing themselves from the government risked losing influence over national decision-making and development priorities.
The event also focused on the Warazo Jet Water Irrigation Project, which is expected to improve water access for domestic use and farming for more than 2,000 residents. Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami joined Waiguru in supporting its completion.
Mukami praised development initiatives and urged residents to demand tangible results from elected leaders instead of relying on handouts. She said the project would help households and farmers while stressing that leaders should prioritise lasting solutions that improve livelihoods.
