Military tanks, DSS, police, NSCDC take over Abuja City Gate ahead Obi-Kwankwaso march

According to a report by DAILY POST on Saturday 24 October 2026; Security has been tightened around the Abuja City Gate following the deployment of military personnel, armoured tanks and operatives from several security agencies ahead of a planned mega march by supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The demonstration, organised by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate and his running mate, is aimed at demanding good governance in the country.

Security operatives arrived at the City Gate early on Saturday, October 24, 2026, erecting barricades and carrying out stop-and-search operations in the area.

Personnel of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Civilian Joint Task Force were among those reportedly deployed.

Armoured military vehicles were also positioned around the area as security operatives intensified checks on movement around the strategic entry point into the Federal Capital Territory.

The security presence is understood to be part of measures to maintain peace and prevent any possible breakdown of law and order during the planned protest march.

Obi and Kwankwaso’s supporters had earlier announced plans for a joint mega march in Abuja to press for improved governance.

As of the time of filing the report, the City Gate remained cordoned off, with security personnel maintaining a strong presence around the location.

However, the report did not provide details about the commencement of the march or any incidents arising from the security deployment.
