MATE Energy Bags SON’s MANCAP Award For Sustained Quality Standards
MATE Energy Industries Limited has received recognition and award under the 10-year category of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s (SON) Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) Quality Awards for its sustained commitment to product quality and compliance with established standards.
The recognition comes as the lubricant blending company strengthens its quality assurance capacity through investments in laboratory equipment, with plans to attract more international manufacturers to Nigeria.
Akinrotogun Muhammad-Rabiu, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MATE Energy Industries Limited, while speaking shortly after receiving the award disclosed that the company had invested about N478 million in laboratory equipment to ensure its products met national and international standards.
Muhammad-Rabiu said the company invested close to N100 million in laboratory equipment at the beginning of its operations, following staff training, and committed another N378 million to laboratory equipment as of January 2026.
He explained that the additional investment had enabled the company to conduct more tests within its facility, strengthening its ability to assess products before they entered the market.
According to him, the company has also increased its laboratory staff strength to meet the requirements of international lubricant manufacturers that engage its services for product blending and quality assurance.
Muhammad-Rabiu described the company’s laboratory as one of the best in Nigeria for lubricant testing, adding that its quality assurance investments had helped it secure business relationships with international companies.
These include HPCL India, a government-owned company in India, and Infinity Lubricant, another international company from India, whose products MATE Energy blends locally.
He said working with such companies required the Nigerian firm to demonstrate its ability to meet stringent quality requirements before receiving approval to blend their products.
Muhammad-Rabiu said the MANCAP recognition would further strengthen the company’s credibility among existing and prospective international clients.
He added that the recognition had generated business opportunities, with prospective customers from the United Arab Emirates, India and Turkey contacting the company about third-party blending services in Nigeria.
According to him, MATE Energy plans to attract more international lubricant manufacturers to Nigeria, particularly businesses that currently import finished products branded abroad.
He explained that the company’s business model enables clients to have their products blended and branded locally, while MATE Energy also provides technical support to address product-related challenges.
The company is also considering investments in raw materials, with plans to bring them directly into its facility to exercise greater control over materials used in production.
On consumer confidence, Muhammad-Rabiu said the award demonstrated that the company’s commitment to quality was supported by investments and practical measures rather than promises alone.
He added that customer satisfaction remained central to its operations, noting that consumers were more likely to return when products met their expectations.
“It is not just getting a certificate or getting a product in the market, but you get a product that you are satisfied with. With this, it will give them more confidence,” he said.
Muhammad-Rabiu also disclosed that the company had commenced work on a quality management system, which it hoped to achieve within the next two to three months.
He added that MATE Energy would continue investing in quality assurance, expanding its third-party blending operations and attracting more international companies to undertake lubricant production in Nigeria.
