Super Eagles Midfield Duo Back In Squad For AFCON Qualifiers Against Tanzania

According to a report by Soccernet on Saturday October 24, 2026, Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has submitted his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania, with midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Tochukwu Nnadi returning to the team.

The Super Eagles began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar but suffered a disappointing setback in their second match, losing 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau.

Following those contrasting results, Nigeria will return to action in November for consecutive encounters against Tanzania, one of the countries hosting the tournament. Chelle has reportedly selected his preferred players as the team prepares for the important fixtures.

Among the notable inclusions are Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Tochukwu Nnadi, who plays for French Ligue 1 side Marseille. Both midfielders missed Nigeria’s opening round of qualifying matches but are now back in contention for the upcoming games.

Their return provides Chelle with additional options in midfield as the Super Eagles seek to improve their performances and secure positive results against Tanzania. The pair will hope to make an impact if selected for either encounter.

However, Alhassan Yusuf has been left out of the squad. The New England Revolution midfielder is still recovering from the injury that prevented him from featuring in Nigeria’s first set of qualifying matches.

His continued absence means Chelle will have to consider other options in midfield while the player works towards regaining full fitness.

Nigeria will be eager to respond positively after their defeat to Guinea-Bissau, and the return of Dele-Bashiru and Nnadi could prove important as the Super Eagles prepare for their November assignments.
