David Ndii Breaks Silence on Affordable Housing as KSh13,000 Monthly Payment Promise Draws Attention
David Ndii has defended the government’s Affordable Housing Programme insisting that its goal of making homeownership accessible to ordinary Kenyans remains on track despite rising construction costs.
Speaking on October 24, 2026 Ndii explained that the programme was designed to reduce the financial burden of owning a home especially for families struggling to afford houses at market prices.
According to Ndii the original plan targeted a two-bedroom apartment costing KSh13,000 per month. He said the calculations were based on the principle that housing payments should account for 30 per cent of a household’s income.
Ndii explained that a home that would ordinarily require an income of KSh120,000 per month could become affordable to a household earning approximately KSh40,000 through the programme’s financing model.
He acknowledged that construction costs have changed since the initial calculations were made four years ago. However he maintained that the government remains committed to delivering affordable homes to Kenyans.
The remarks come as the housing initiative continues to attract public attention with many citizens keen to understand whether the promised homes will match their financial circumstances.
For low and middle income families the key concern remains whether the monthly payments will be manageable alongside other household expenses.
Ndii’s statement reinforces the government’s position that the programme is intended to narrow the gap between rising housing costs and the earnings of ordinary Kenyan workers.
