CMA Reveals Leading Unit Trust and Money Market Funds in Kenya
The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has ranked Kenya’s leading collective investment schemes, with Standard Investment Trust Fund emerging as the largest by assets under management, according to the regulator’s latest quarterly report.
The CMA’s Quarterly Statistical Bulletin for the third quarter of 2026 shows that Standard Investment Trust Fund managed KSh188.62 billion as of June 30, 2026. The fund accounted for 19.88 per cent of the total market, placing it ahead of other major investment schemes.
Sanlam Unit Trust Scheme came second with assets worth KSh171.38 billion, representing an 18.06 per cent market share. The fund remained a major player in Kenya’s collective investment sector, with its assets placing it relatively close to the market leader.
CIC Unit Trust Scheme ranked third after recording KSh105.24 billion in assets under management. Its share of the market stood at 11.09 per cent, making it the third-largest scheme among those listed in the report.
Britam Unit Trust Scheme took fourth position, with assets valued at KSh71.35 billion. The fund held a 7.52 per cent market share, maintaining its place among Kenya’s largest collective investment schemes.
NCBA Unit Trust Scheme completed the top five rankings, managing KSh50.54 billion as of the reporting date. Its market share stood at 5.33 per cent, according to the CMA bulletin.
The figures highlight the concentration of assets among the leading investment schemes, with Standard Investment Trust Fund and Sanlam Unit Trust Scheme together accounting for nearly 38 per cent of the market.
Collective investment schemes pool money from different investors and invest it in assets such as government securities, fixed-income instruments and other approved investments. Money market funds are among the options available to Kenyans seeking to invest collectively, although returns, fees and risks vary across products.
The CMA’s quarterly bulletin provides a snapshot of the sector’s performance and the amounts managed by individual schemes. Investors are encouraged to assess a fund’s objectives, charges, liquidity and risk profile before committing their money.
