Latest Online Poll Reveals Who Is Leading Kenya’s 2027 Presidential Race — Details

President William Ruto has emerged as the leading presidential candidate in a new opinion poll ahead of the 2027 General Election, giving his re-election campaign a boost as political competition continues to grow.

According to a Politrack Research Team survey published by The Star on October 1, 2026, Ruto received 45.1 per cent support among respondents asked which presidential candidate they would vote for at the time of the survey.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna came second with 19.6 per cent, followed by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who received 10.3 per cent. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i garnered 7.2 per cent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received 6 per cent.

The survey was conducted between September 15 and 25, with 20,419 respondents participating through a text-based platform.

The findings come as political leaders continue to prepare for the 2027 elections, with several opposition figures exploring possible alliances to challenge the incumbent president.

Ruto has continued to defend his administration’s development agenda, while opposition leaders have raised concerns about the cost of living, employment opportunities and the performance of the government.

Sifuna has also attracted attention through his Linda Mwananchi political movement, while Gachagua has continued building support through his Democracy for the Citizens Party.

The poll further showed that 8.4 per cent of respondents had not decided whom to support, leaving room for changes in voter preferences as the election approaches.

However, opinion polls represent public sentiment during a particular period and do not determine the final election outcome. Candidates will still need to convince voters through their policies, campaigns and promises.

With the 2027 General Election approaching, political parties are expected to intensify their campaigns as they seek support across the country.

The coming months will show whether Ruto can maintain his lead or whether opposition alliances and changing voter preferences will reshape the presidential race.

Do you think President Ruto will maintain his lead until the 2027 election, or could the opposition change the race?
