Gideon Moi Reveals What He Has Been Facing Under Ruto’s Government

KANU chairman Gideon Moi has raised fresh concerns over his relationship with President William Ruto, accusing the administration of subjecting him to repeated provocation as political questions emerge ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Moi spoke on Friday, October 23, during a meeting at his Kabarak residence, where he brought together representatives of Kalenjin sub-tribes, community elders and opinion shapers to discuss the region’s political direction.

During the gathering, the former Baringo senator reportedly outlined several grievances against the government, including alleged unfulfilled promises, insulting remarks, the reported abduction of a key staff member and the disputed occupation of property associated with his family.

His remarks have drawn attention to the political understanding between KANU and Ruto’s administration, which had appeared to improve following a meeting at State House and the President’s visit to Kabarak in October 2025.

The engagements had fuelled speculation about closer cooperation between KANU and the ruling United Democratic Alliance, particularly in the Rift Valley, where political alliances could influence the outcome of the next general election.

However, a dispute over a parcel of land near Eldoret State Lodge has reportedly introduced fresh strain. The Moi family, through its lawyer, protested the alleged occupation of the property by General Service Unit officers and called for intervention.

The circumstances surrounding the dispute remain contested, and the allegations against the administration have not been independently established.

Moi’s meeting with Kalenjin elders also comes as political leaders begin shaping their strategies for 2027. The consultations could provide an opportunity for the KANU leader to explain his concerns and outline his party’s next political steps.

Whether the latest developments will affect future cooperation between Moi and Ruto remains uncertain.
