What Kitui MCA Is Accused of Stealing That Has Sparked Debate Online
A Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Kitui County has been arrested over claims that he was involved in a series of mobile phone thefts in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives from Kamukunji Police Station arrested Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, who serves as the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward. He was arrested in Mfanganо Street after investigators received information linking him to several reported theft cases.
According to the DCI, Musyoka had already been on the detectives’ watch list for some time. The investigations were connected to three separate incidents that were reported in August and September 2026. These cases involved mobile phone thefts that were said to have happened in the busy city centre.
Police said CCTV footage played a major role in the investigation. The footage was reviewed carefully, and detectives said it helped them identify Musyoka in connection with the reported incidents. This evidence is what reportedly led to his arrest.
The arrest has drawn public attention because Musyoka is an elected leader. Many people are now watching the case closely as investigators continue with their work. The allegations have also raised questions about trust, leadership, and crime in Nairobi’s CBD, where phone theft has remained a common problem.
The DCI has not yet given full details about whether more suspects are involved or whether the stolen phones have been recovered. However, the arrest suggests that police are treating the matter seriously and are trying to build a strong case based on evidence.
For now, Musyoka is expected to face further police processing as investigations continue. The law enforcement team is working to establish the exact circumstances of the reported thefts and determine whether the MCA acted alone or with other people.
The case has also caused debate among the public because it involves a serving county lawmaker. Some Kenyans have expressed shock that a leader could be linked to such criminal activity, while others are waiting for the legal process to reveal the full truth.
