Rwanda delegation visits GoldBod to study Ghana’s gold sector reforms

A delegation from the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board has engaged the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to learn from Ghana’s efforts to reform the gold industry, strengthen trading regulations, combat smuggling and encourage responsible mining practices.

The delegation, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Alice Uwase, was welcomed by GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, Esq.

During the engagement, the Rwandan officials praised GoldBod’s initiatives in regulating gold trading, licensing operators, promoting value addition and addressing environmental concerns associated with mining.

Mr Gyamfi outlined the board’s role in Ghana’s economic performance, highlighting gold export earnings of US$10.8 billion in 2025 and US$11.6 billion recorded as of October 2026.

He underscored the need for greater collaboration among African countries, urging governments and institutions to exchange knowledge and experiences to derive greater economic value from their mineral resources.

The delegation also received a briefing from GoldBod’s Director for Responsible Mining, Professor Ishmael Quaicoo, on measures to formalise small-scale mining, expand access to financing and encourage environmentally sustainable gold processing.

The visit forms part of efforts to share experiences and explore approaches to improving mineral governance and responsible resource management across the continent.
