“How dare you tell me what to say?” – Xandy Kamel answers critics of Emelia Brobbey interview

In a video shared on Instagram and sighted by GhanaWeb on October 22, 2026, the actress said she has received calls and a stream of direct messages since her recent interview with Emelia Brobbey. According to her, some of the senders felt she should have kept the matter private, while others believed she could have put it differently.

In that interview, Xandy Kamel recounted that she was celebrating her then-husband’s birthday on September 17, the same day her son was being buried. The boy had just finished writing his BECE and went with friends to Sakumono Beach, where he drowned. She said her mother went to the burial in her place because she did not want to leave her husband’s side, particularly as he had been drinking.

Responding to the reaction, Xandy Kamel questioned where the critics got their authority. “How dare you tell me what to say and not to say? Who even gave you the moral right to tell me what to say about myself? Do you know me better than myself?” she said.

She insisted that speaking openly was a deliberate choice. “So you people were expecting me to keep it to myself? I am not a hypocrite or a pretender. I don’t live a fake life, so the fact that someone has wronged me doesn’t mean I am a saint,” she added.

The actress explained that she believed the interview was the right moment to take accountability for her own actions, and that she would not hide parts of her past to protect her image.

Her latest remarks come days after the interview drew wide public attention, and they follow an earlier occasion on which she responded sharply to people who body-shamed her online.
