Details Emerge on the Position Babu Owino Wants Ahead of 2027 as He Reveals This About Sifuna

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has clarified his political ambitions, stating that he does not intend to pursue the presidency at the moment while expressing his willingness to work closely with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Babu said the two leaders have compatible political interests and should focus on supporting each other rather than allowing personal ambitions to create divisions as the 2027 General Election approaches.

“I do not want to be President of Kenya right now. Our interests with Sifuna do not conflict, so we can work together as brothers and lift each other up,” Babu said.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments within the opposition, with several leaders seeking partnerships to challenge President William Ruto in the next election.

Babu and Sifuna have attracted attention because of their association with the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has gained prominence through calls for accountability, political change and greater attention to the concerns of ordinary Kenyans.

Sifuna, the former ODM secretary-general, has become an increasingly prominent figure in opposition politics following disagreements within the Orange Democratic Movement over its political direction.

Babu, meanwhile, has continued to position himself as an outspoken political leader, particularly among young Kenyans who have demanded better governance and greater accountability from elected leaders.

His latest statement could ease speculation that his political ambitions might clash with Sifuna’s growing influence within the opposition.

By describing their relationship as one between brothers, Babu appeared to emphasise cooperation and mutual support rather than competition for leadership positions.

The statement also raises questions about the role Babu could play in determining the opposition’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. Although he has ruled out seeking the presidency for now, he did not explicitly declare which candidate he would support.

Opposition leaders are expected to face difficult negotiations as they attempt to agree on a common presidential candidate and avoid splitting their support.

For supporters of both politicians, maintaining a strong working relationship could be crucial as political alliances continue to take shape.

Whether their cooperation translates into a formal political partnership remains to be seen as the election approaches.
