Rulani Mokwena Linked With La Liga Side Valencia CF

Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC continued their impressive run of form after recording a 4-1 victory over El-Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League on Monday evening.

The result extended Pyramids’ winning streak to 11 matches in all competitions, while they also secured their seventh consecutive league victory under the South African coach.

Pyramids returned to domestic action after securing an important away victory against South Sudan’s El Merriekh in the CAF Champions League. Mokwena’s team carried that momentum into their league encounter and started strongly at home.

The Egyptian side took the lead in the sixth minute through Mohanad Lasheen, who scored his second goal of the season and increased his total goal contributions to four.

Pyramids continued to put pressure on their opponents and doubled their advantage in the 15th minute through Mostafa Ziko. The forward has been in good form, and his goal put Mokwena’s team in a comfortable position early in the match.

However, El-Gaish responded in the 35th minute when Ahmed Tarek found the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1. The goal gave the visitors hope, but Pyramids continued creating opportunities as they searched for another goal.

Youssef Obama appeared to have extended the home side’s advantage, but his goal was disallowed following a lengthy Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

Pyramids eventually restored their two-goal lead with 10 minutes remaining in normal time when Mahmoud Saber scored his second goal in four days. Mahmoud Zalaka then completed the 4-1 victory by converting a penalty in the 89th minute.

The result kept Pyramids at the top of the Egyptian Premier League standings, five points ahead of second-placed Al Ahly, who have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Mokwena has also been linked with a possible move to Spanish football. La Liga side Valencia CF have reportedly shown interest in former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, offering him an assistant coach position with a monthly salary of R7 million.

Mokwena has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Spanish club, with discussions continuing over the final paperwork. If the deal goes through, his proposed R7 million monthly salary would make him the highest-paid South African coach. However, the agreement and reported financial details have yet to be officially confirmed by either party.

For now, Mokwena will turn his attention to Pyramids’ CAF Champions League second preliminary round second-leg clash against El Merriekh on Saturday evening as his team looks to continue its strong run of results.
