Twin brothers who owned a lounge in Bloemfontein were shot dead in their vehicle in Bochabela on Wednesday morning.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Free State police spokesperson Lt-Col Thabo Covane said twins Kegomodicoe and Keabecoe Lekone, aged 52, were shot at the gate of premises in Ramatsoele Street while sitting in their charcoal-coloured Ford Ranger.
The brothers were known as the owners of Ekhayeni Lounge Bar.
Covane said Mangaung police received a report of a shooting in progress at about 8.51am on Wednesday.
A witness who was inside a double-storey building on the premises told police he heard gunshots from upstairs. When he rushed outside to investigate, he saw a man running towards a white Chevrolet Aveo hatchback before the vehicle sped off.
The witness could not tell whether the man was carrying anything. There may have been two other occupants already inside the vehicle, Covane said.
ER24 paramedics declared the brothers dead at the scene.
Covane said the serious and violent crimes and murder and robbery units had launched a manhunt for the suspects. Double murder cases have been opened at Mangaung police station.
