In a public notice issued on 20 October 2026, the power distributor said the exercise will cover all its operational areas. Teams will inspect and verify prepaid and postpaid meters, Special Load Tariff (SLT) installations and the associated wiring. The goal is to confirm the integrity of metering systems and ensure accurate measurement and billing of electricity consumed.
ECG stated that the announcement itself serves as official notice of the exercise. No further prior notices, appointment letters or advance notifications will be issued to individual customers. The company therefore advised landlords, estate managers, facility managers, property managers and security personnel not to deny or delay access to authorised staff simply because they have not received a separate letter.
The utility cited Regulation 4(h) of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Customer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2413), which requires consumers to grant utility employees or authorised agents safe and reasonable access to premises once they produce verifiable identification.
To protect customers from impersonation, ECG stressed that all participating staff and agents will carry official identification cards. Customers are strongly encouraged to verify the identity of any field personnel before allowing them entry.
Verification can be done in two ways. Customers may dial the USSD code *226# on any mobile network, select Option 5 (“Verify Staff”), and enter the six-digit code provided by the staff member. The system will then display the worker’s full name, region and district. Alternatively, customers can call the ECG Customer Call Centre on 0302 611 611 for confirmation.
Electricity theft and commercial losses have long been major challenges for ECG, affecting revenue and the overall reliability of power supply. The nationwide audit is expected to help the company recover lost revenue and improve operational efficiency.
Customers are advised to cooperate with genuine ECG personnel while remaining vigilant and always verifying staff identity before granting access to their premises.
