Social Media Frenzy As Video Highlights Dr. Bawumia’s Contradictory Statements On Pwalugu Dam

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene ignited a political debate on social media after sharing a viral video regarding NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s statements on the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project.

According to Facebook Post on October 20, 2026, with the popular meme caption “A few moments later,” the video contrasts two separate statements made by Dr. Bawumia to highlight apparent inconsistencies regarding the project’s actual status.

The first clip features a past radio interview on Asempa FM where Dr. Bawumia, speaking as Vice President, touted the Pwalugu Dam as a flagship achievement of the NPP administration. The second clip shows a more recent campaign appearance where Dr. Bawumia promises that a future NPP government will prioritize and construct the exact same dam. By placing the recordings side by side, Dr. Amoakohene questioned whether the project had already been completed as previously claimed or remained an unfulfilled campaign promise.

The post triggered widespread online engagement. Many social media users responded with humor, praising the comedic editing and sharp political commentary. However, others raised serious questions regarding government transparency and infrastructure development in Northern Ghana, where the dam is considered vital for regional agriculture, flood control, and economic growth.

The viral video underscores the increasing role of digital archiving and political satire in holding public figures accountable. As discourse surrounding the Pwalugu Dam continues, the controversy highlights how past campaign declarations are scrutinized during election cycles, forcing political actors to reconcile previous claims with current campaign promises.
