Sarkodie Rules Out Second Wife, Says He Lacks Capacity for Polygamy
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has dismissed any possibility of taking a second wife, stating that he does not have the capacity to handle the demands of another marriage.
The award-winning musician made the disclosure during an interview with broadcaster Serwaa Amihere on the programme When We Sit. The host asked whether he would consider having two wives, similar to his friend and fellow artiste Shatta Wale.
Sarkodie, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, explained that polygamy is not something he has seriously contemplated because of the stress it would entail. He stated plainly that the pressure of managing another marriage is something he does not believe he could handle, adding that he lacks the bandwidth for such an arrangement.
When pressed further on whether he would reconsider if a second marriage came without any stress, the rapper held firm to his position, indicating that his stance was not conditional but rooted in a realistic assessment of what he could manage.
Sarkodie has been married to Tracy Sarkcess since July 2018, following several years of courtship. The couple has two children and has generally kept their family life out of the public spotlight, maintaining a deliberate boundary between their private lives and Sarkodie’s high-profile music career.
His comments contrast with the more public polygamous arrangements of some figures in Ghana’s entertainment industry, including Shatta Wale, whose marital situation prompted the question. Sarkodie’s response reflects a personal choice grounded in self-awareness about the responsibilities that come with marriage.
The rapper’s remarks have since sparked conversation among fans and social media users, with many praising his honesty and his commitment to his family.
